# Bitcoin

Bitcoin is a decentralized, proof-of-work network for peer-to-peer payments. Bitcoin (BTC) is the native asset.

Infura provides access to the [Bitcoin Core JSON-RPC API](/reference/bitcoin/json-rpc-methods/). Methods include functionality for reading blocks, transactions, and chain state, inspecting the mempool, and getting transaction inclusion proofs.
